Speaker 2025

Mariella Frostrup

She is a UK-based broadcaster, journalist, and mother of two, born in Norway in 1962, raised in Ireland, and living in London since her teens. She began her career in music PR during the 1980s and ’90s, promoting acts from Dire Straits and UB40 to Bananarama and the Boomtown Rats, and contributed to major projects including Band Aid and Live Aid.

Her work in music led her into television, with appearances on Channel 4’s Big World, BBC Panorama, and cameos on shows like Absolutely Fabulous and Coupling. She presents BBC Radio 4’s Open Book, the series Bringing Up Britain, and has reviewed film and arts for numerous outlets.

An accomplished journalist, she has written for most major UK newspapers and magazines, including The Times, Sunday Times, Observer, Harpers Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. She is also a committed advocate for equal rights, serving as Save The Children’s Gender Ambassador, a founder trustee of The Great Initiative, and a patron of The Shark Trust, while supporting Comic Relief.

Outside work, she enjoys family life in Somerset, long walks, and scuba diving when she can escape to warmer seas.
