Blátnaid Gallagher MSc is an organic farmer, locally grown wool advocate, and rural development leader based in County Galway. With a Master’s degree from NUI Galway and a 30-year background in Business and Agriculture, Blátnaid is deeply committed to bringing transparency and sustainability to the Irish wool sector. As Founder of the Galway Wool Co-op, Blátnaid has pioneered a farmer-led initiative that promotes traceable, transparent supply chains in the wool industry. She is an outspoken advocate for the consumer’s right to know where their wool is grown, aiming to restore integrity to Ireland’s wool sector by emphasising the importance of native breeds and sustainable farming practices. Blátnaid also serves as Irish Ambassador for FLIARA (Female-Led Innovation in Agriculture and Rural Areas), where she champions women in agriculture and rural innovation across Europe. Her advocacy has earned her recognition on national platforms, including appearances on Saol na Feirme, Raised by the Village, and Ear to the Ground, where she shares her expertise on sustainable farming, consumer rights, and the future of rural industries. A Farming for Nature Ambassador and a strong supporter of Social Farming, Blátnaid uses her media presence to raise awareness about the intersection of land stewardship, social inclusion, and rural regeneration. Her approach integrates farming, advocacy, and education, empowering both consumers and producers and positioning her as a leading voice in sustainable and transparent Irish agriculture.
