Alison Byrne is an award-winning Irish artist, educator, and activist specialising in glass. Working from her Dublin-based studio, she has developed a focused practice over the past ten years, creating copper foil stained glass under the name WildBird Studio. A graduate of Wolverhampton College of Art and Bournemouth and Poole College's glass programs, Byrne's work is defined by the integration of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary processes. She incorporates techniques including ceramic decals, glass painting, and screen printing to create layered narrative imagery.
In 2023, Byrne received the Sculpture in Context Award from the Glass Society of Ireland for her project Hidden Homeless. This body of work evolved into Shrine to the Housing Gods, a series exploring themes of housing, folklore, and solidarity, and examining the emotional and cultural architecture of home. Byrne's practice positions glass as both a material and a narrative device, creating works that are visually striking and conceptually resonant.
