Artist Tobias Hodson presents a collection of recent paintings. His exotic tropical birds, exquisitely detailed botanicals, and lush landscapes will be on display in the Grainstore daily during the month of June from 10am to 5pm.
Working from his studio in Ballyandreen, East Cork, Hodson’s work is inspired by nature and the world of natural history. The exhibition will offer a mix of large watercolours and less traditional images in oil painted on glass. In addition to thirty original paintings, a selection of high-quality prints will be on sale in sizes ranging from very generous to A4.
“It’s good to get out. Trees, colour and air are good for the soul. Through my painting, I try to bring the outside in. I want my subjects to look as decorative as jewels from the external world,” says Hodson, who moved to East Cork from his native England almost 30 years ago.
“Living with beautiful paintings that pay tribute to the natural world reminds us to slow down and helps us reconnect with nature. Nature is my inspiration and subject matter, whether it is a traditional landscape, or a bird, or a flower painting.”
Hodson mostly uses established materials, watercolour brushed onto cotton paper, to capture movement and life — the brush control is a slow meditation to make the pigment sing.
His work has been shown in prestigious galleries in Ireland, the U.K. and the U.S. When not in his East Cork studio, he is often found surfing nearby beaches. He is a graduate of the Gloucestershire College of Art and Design.
