Discover the story behind Ballymaloe Grainstore, a versatile venue nestled on the grounds of Ballymaloe House Hotel. Founded by Rory Allen, son of Myrtle & Ivan Allen, this space blends his love for farming with a passion for music. Inspired by intimate music gatherings in Ballymaloe House Hotel's drawing room, he envisioned a dedicated venue for memorable events.
Today, run by Bree Allen and her team, the Grainstore is a bustling events space and one of East Cork's most vibrant cultural hubs. From weddings and intimate concerts, theatre and yoga retreats to pop-up dinners, corporate events to tattoo conventions and festivals, this hidden gem seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern convenience.
During the transformation of the building, Rory was deeply committed to maintaining the genuine character of the 17th-century agricultural structure. Working alongside architect Jilly Ferrera, he oversaw the careful conversion of this former store for wheat and machinery, evolving it into the multi-purpose event space that greets visitors today.
Following its 2010 restoration, The Grainstore has established itself as a premier setting for a wide range of gatherings, from romantic weddings and lively festivals to artisanal craft fairs. The venue has also seen historic moments, such as welcoming President Bill Clinton for The Worldwide Ireland Funds Conference in 2012.
