Siorghlas Glass Art

Siorghlas Glass Art

I design and create fused glass art in my studio in Co. Wexford, each piece is different and usually nature inspired. To make a design I cut different types, textures and colours of glass and often use powdered or granulated glass to build depth, these are arranged in the art forms to produce pictures, free-standing or hanging pieces, also bowls and dishes. I also use a blow torch to pull thin pieces of glass into shapes like trees or branches. These pieces are placed in my kiln and I programme to kiln depending on the effect I need, the pieces are n the kiln for 18-24 hours at temperatures up to 780’C. To build layers the pieces are n can go back into the a number of times. To achieve a shape other than flat the piece is kiln formed again over a mould. My business name is Siorghlas Glass Art, siorghlas is Irish for evergreen and as well as describing trees that keep their foliage it also depicts people or things that always seem fresh, lively and interesting and remain popular despite their age, which is how I like my glass art to be.
