The origins of Garranstackle Honey date back to 1948 when John Curtis started keeping bees in the townland of Garranstackle near Bree, Enniscorthy. In the 1950s, beekeepers in Wexford produced approximately half of the honey in Ireland, with the Enniscorthy honey market an important supplement to local incomes.  In those days of abundant forage and many more hedgerows than today, Wexford’s clover honey was renowned nationally.

Today the beekeeper in Garranstackle Honey is John’s son, also named John.  He keeps his bees in the same orchard as his father did, but also has apiaries across several sites around Enniscorthy and the Slaney river valley. The bees forage across a wide variety of plants, crops, and trees, including dandelion, Horse Chestnut, Sycamore, field beans, oilseed rape, blackberry and clover.
