Fire and Stain

Fire and Stain

Fire and Stain is handmade timber and live edge products using wood which is sourced locally. The wood goes through a burning techniques and coloured using  vibrant wood stains.  I create two different styles of wood burning, Shou Sugi Ban style which is a Japanese technique created by blow torching the wood, washing, cleaning and finishing with either varnish or stain and varnish.  It gives beautiful light dark effects to the wood and brings up its natural grain. Fractal burning is where high volts of electricity flow through the natural wood grain to create a lightning effect pattern on the wood.  (can resemble trees sometimes)  the wood is then finished with either varnish or stain and varnish. Both finishes give a very tactile and original finish as you can never predict what way the piece will burn. I specialise in clocks which make a statement along with beautifully turned lighthouses set off on oak/beach burl and fractured beach base.  One of my favourite pieces is the fractal burned sun rise pictures along with varying styles of tea light holders.  I make hanging hearts in various sizes, finishes and colours, boat pictures, pendants, key hook holders and small side tables. For Christmas I will have festive trees and tea light holders.
