"I paint the places that mean the most to me. East Cork's harbours, coastline and islands have inspired me for years, and I love trying to capture their beauty, atmosphere and changing moods on canvas."
Based in East Cork, Maureen Roe draws endless inspiration from the coastline, harbours and countryside that surround her. Working primarily in oils, she is captivated by the changing light, shifting skies and the ever-present influence of the sea.
From the colourful fishing boats of Ballycotton to the rugged beauty of Knockadoon and the islands beyond, Maureen's paintings celebrate the places that have shaped her life. Her work is inspired not only by the landscape itself, but also by the memories, stories and sense of belonging that these familiar scenes evoke.
Using expressive brushwork and rich colour, she seeks to capture both the energy and tranquillity of coastal life. Whether portraying a bustling harbour, a quiet shoreline, or a dramatic seascape, her paintings aim to convey the atmosphere and emotion of a moment rather than simply record a view.
Alongside her landscapes and seascapes, Maureen is also an accomplished portrait artist, creating commissioned works that capture the individuality and presence of her subjects with warmth and sensitivity.
Rooted in a deep connection to both people and place, her work reflects a lifelong love of East Cork and its maritime heritage. This exhibition presents a collection of paintings inspired by the light, beauty and spirit of the region she proudly calls home.
