Chris Difford, co-founder and front man of the legendary rock band, Squeeze, comes to the Grainstore as the final date of his Irish tour. As a member of one the biggest and best-loved bands of the 1970s and 80s, Chris has made a lasting contribution to pop music with massive hits such as Cool For Cats, Up The Junction, Labelled With Love, Hourglass, Tempted, and Pulling Mussels From The Shell.
Chris will perform these enduring, iconic Squeeze hits while also sharing stories from his best-selling memoir, Some Fantastic Place: My Life In and Out of Squeeze. Expect tales of his Irish roots in working-class London, bumps along superstardom’s fast lane, brushes with Bono back in the day when U2 supported Squeeze, and much more.
Chris Difford’s music has been the soundtrack of many fans’ lives since his first release in 1977. Thirteen albums later, the two-time winner of the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for song-writing and composition has a passion for innovation and love of playing that drives him to carry on writing rather than sit back and admire his handiwork. Indeed, Squeeze continues to tour, including a USA tour and a slot at Glastonbury in 2017.
Difford’s Irish roots run deep. When introducing a new tune, Lammas Fair, at a recent Shrewsbury Festival, the songwriter said, ‘This song is about my parents who took me to Ireland every single summer, where they steeped me in the history of local music. We went on holiday every year to the exact same place!’
His 13-album career with Squeeze makes clear that Chris Difford has few peers when it comes to smart, pithy lyricism. Come and enjoy this amazing talent live in our intimate performance space.
Support by the supremely talented Cork singer/song writer, Jack O'Rourke.
